ANGELES CITY – Kabataang Angeleño pride swells anew as three students from the Angeles City Science High School earned national and international recognition for their innovative research in renewable energy.
Nathan Andrew P. Canilao, Pierre Phoella G. Ilagan, and Asher John S. Garcia, under the guidance of their adviser Lolita G. Bautista, developed a groundbreaking wind turbine project titled “WinDTurbine Power: A Novel Hybrid Dimple-Tubercle Blade Configuration Integrating Physics-Informed Gaussian Process (PIGP) for Power Coefficient Optimization.”

Their project emerged as one of the Eight Overall Best Projects at the National Science and Technology Fair (NSTF) 2026, held from March 10 to 13 in Quezon City. The team dominated the Physical Science – Team Category, earning multiple prestigious awards including Best Project – Physical Science (Team Category), Young Scientist Award, STEM Changemaker Award, and the Gokongwei Brothers Foundation Scholarship.
Through their research, the students explored ways to improve wind turbine efficiency using advanced aerodynamics and machine-learning modeling—an innovation that contributes to the global pursuit of sustainable and renewable energy solutions, especially crucial in today’s climate challenges and energy concerns.

As a result of their achievement, the team is set to represent the Philippines at the Regeneron International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) 2026, to be held from May 9 to 15 in Phoenix, Arizona, USA. The Regeneron ISEF is the world’s largest pre-college STEM competition, held annually for high school students.
At their recent courtesy visit at city hall, Mayor Carmelo “Jon” Lazatin II personally commended the students for their exceptional achievement and for bringing pride and honor to Angeles City. The meeting also served as an opportunity for an exchange of ideas, where the young scientists shared insights on innovation, sustainability, and the potential impact of their research in addressing real-world challenges.

Mayor Lazatin emphasized the importance of empowering the youth and supporting initiatives that promote science, technology, and innovation, recognizing the vital role of young minds in shaping a more sustainable and progressive future.
He said the students’ success highlights the excellence, intelligence, and potential of the Kabataang Angeleños, proving that the youth of Angeles City are capable of making meaningful contributions to science, innovation, and global development. Angeles CIO
