Honesty lives at SM Clark

Jul 16, 2010

DIOGENES, SO the story goes, roamed old Athens holding a lantern in broad daylight in search of honest men. And found none.

Alas, the old sage did not live long enough to roam SM City Clark to find the object of his search.

Honesty lives, nay, thrives at the SM City Clark.

Joseph Payabyab, a crew assigned at the mall’s food court, did not think a second when he found a cell phone left in one of the tables there. He promptly turned it over to his supervisor to return to the owner, a very thankful Pauline Mangiliman of Porac town.

Ruel Abua, mall security officer belonging to the Panther Security Agency, found an envelope lying at the mall’s food court too. Checking it, he discovered P8,000 in cash and other important documents. Promptly too, he turned this over to his superiors. The owner of the envelope, a Belba Arpilleda, was teary eyed in thanks and gratitude to the guard over the return of her belongings.

These are but two incidents in the long history of honesty at the SM City Clark.

This paper’s editorial consultant has had the habit of leaving his cell phone in the mall’s various coffeeshops. And always his Nokia E63 has been returned to him.

Just because the SM City Clark people are proven honest does not mean mall goers could just go on losing things. There are still the men – and women – who make a livelihood at preying on the unwary and the absent-minded at all malls.

Caveat emptor. Beware the buyer. The SM City Clark management gives ample warning of their nefarious ways.

Also, the SM City Clark management follows a stringent process when it comes to the recovery of lost items.

Claimants are screened properly in order to avoid opportunism and protect the real owners through a verification proceeding that includes asking the claimant to describe the lost object, presenting identification cards, etc.

Anyways, just the thought of honest men and women working at SM City Clark adds to a more relaxed and enjoyable malling experience.

May their tribe increase.
