Good governance becomes Jimmy
Jul 14, 2010
“THE CITY of San Fernando has been making achievements in good governance through the leadership of Mayor Oscar Rodriguez. What we want to do now is to cascade good government practices down to the barangay level.”
So spoke Councilor Jimmy Lazatin in assuming the chairmanship of the city council committee on good governance and ethics.
Lazatin defines a “truly efficient, corruption-free, responsive and good governance” as the “barometer of peace, unity and progress in any community.”
Hence, the requisite of imbibing its practice in all levels of government, drawing in the active participation of all sectors of the community.
Towards that end, Lazatin will be pushing for extensive and intensive training programs on good governance practices in partnership with the Department of Interior and Local Government as well as other good governance advocacy bodies.
Lazatin said these training interventions will go a long way in helping the stakeholders in government “to choose and easily adopt, replicate, and expand relevant and possible local governance models and practices.”
“Good governance should be a way of life of government officials and we hope to achieve significant headway in the campaign this term.” So goes the mantra of the emerging poster boy of good governance in the City of San Fernando.
