LIMAY, Bataan – Five Filipino women and two Korean male executives died Tuesday before midnight when the van they were riding hit a tricycle first to them, then collided with an incoming passenger bus along the Roman Expressway in Townsite, Limay town Supt. Luisito Bolivar, Limay police chief, identified the fatalities as sisters Daisy and Mary Rose Hermoso of Bagac town; Armi Dionisio and Emy Balingit of Mariveles; Michel Dolarte of Tarlac and Korean executives Warren Sin, driver of the van and SK Joe.
Another woman passenger of the KIA van was seriously hurt while a backrider of the tricycle was injured. They were both confined at the Bataan General Hospital in Balanga City.
The van was totally wrecked.
Of the eight passengers of the bus, only driver Leonardo Callero complained of aching foot. He was detained at the Limay municipal jail.
The five women and Maribel Marguia, who is seriously injured, were workers of Dong-In, a Korean company producing bags for exports at the Bataan Economic Zone in Mariveles.
Reports showed that the van tried to overtake the tricycle but the driver made some miscalculations and hit the tricycle and the incoming passenger bus at about 11:20 in the evening along the expressway in Sitio Pias.
“Tumabi na nga ako pero nahagip pa rin ako ng van,” bus driver Callero said. “Nagulat ako nang may bumangga sa likod ng tricycle na sinasakyan ko na umikot at nahulog ako sa sementadong kalsada,” recalled Jonathan Bagtas. The tricycle driver and another passenger were not hurt.
“Nagkatuwaan lang kaya mula Mariveles ay nagpunta sila sa Balanga,” grieving co-workers of the victims said.
