Soldiers from US, Japan, Australia join PHL counterparts in civic actions

CLARK FREEPORT -- Military personnel from the US, Japan and Australia have joined their Filipino counterparts from the Armed Forces’ Northern Luzon Command (Nolcom) in humanitarian and civic actions (HCA) in three provinces in Central Luzon and four in the Cagayan regions.

Nolcom said this would be a “prelude” to the holding of joint Balikatan military exercises this May. In a statement, Nolcom said the multi-national military personnel are already in the “pre-selected” areas in the two regions.

“Coordination is now being made with concerned local government units, school heads and Nolcom units in order to gain support from diff erent stakeholders. These undertakings will be a prelude to Balikatan 34-18 to be conducted in May 2018,” Nolcom said.

It said “the Philippine Army (PA) and Philippine Navy (PN) engineering units, together with their US, Japanese and Australian counterparts, will be involved in this endeavor. As a product of their Engineering Civic Action Program (ENCAP), two-room school buildings will be constructed in five sites in the provinces of Tarlac, Nueva Ecija, Cagayan and Isabela.”

“Cooperative health engagements (CHE) will also be done to increase the capacity of LGU’s and the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) to care for the people entrusted to them, through health education and first responder training. This includes first aid and disaster preparedness response, vector control mitigation. public health and community outreach,” Nolcom added.

It said “different sports activities involving the community and soldiers are also linedup.”

Nolcom also said the AFP and their foreign counterparts are set to donate sports equipment to schools, even while their chaplains are set to hold activities to enhance the spiritual well-being of Filipino youths in schools they are to visit.
