“WE NOW have free tuition and miscellaneous fees for state universities and colleges, you have no reason anymore not to go to college.”

Thus, pep-talked Gov. Lilia G. Pineda to the benefi ciaries of the Expanded Educational Financial Assistance Program at a recent event held at the Bren Z. Guiao Convention Center in the City of San Fernando.

A total of 2,377 government scholars shared some P11 million for that day, with high school valedictorians, salutatorians and 1st honorable mentions receiving P10,000 each; 2nd and 3rd honorable mentions and 75 Alternative Learning System (ALS) students given P5,000; 4th to 8th honorable mentions, P3,000 each.

For graduate students who will take the board examinations, P15,000 as assistance in their review classes.

And more! The governor announced – to deafening applause – that the provincial government had approved for education support an allocation of P80 million for the year. This, to cover allowances and other incidentals, given that tuition and other fees are already free.

Since Governor Pineda assumed office in 2010, a whopping P222,266,088.50 has been allocated for educational financial assistance.

Yes, no reason for any Kapampangan youth not to go to – and finish – college.
