Guagua village execs take action against Japanese encephalitis

Sep 12, 2017

GUAGUA , Pampanga– Local officials of Barangay Maquaipo here have intensified their efforts in fighting the threat of the Japanese encephalitis virus (JEV) by doing house to house fumigation over the weekend.

Barangay Captain Delano Serrano led the JEV prevention project with other barangay officials who visited every house in each purok and fi nished the fumigation in a span of only three days.

According to Serrano, the chemical substances used for the fumigation came from the Department of Health (DOH) and also from an individual who works at the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE).

The substance was mixed with Baygon, a branded water-based multi insect killer.

“Barangay Maquiapo pioneered this project and since we have not yet coordinated with the town officials, the project was funded with our own budget from the barangay,” he said.

Serrano said he is hoping that this could prevent the spread of the dreaded JEV from infecting the community.

Aside from this, barangay health workers are also doing “vector surveillance” where they inspect each of the houses in the barangay to make sure the surroundings are clean and to provide proper education on how to prevent mosquitoes from breeding.
