Cinemalaya 2017 launched at Marquee Mall

Aug 10, 2017

ANGELES CITY --- The Cinemalaya foundation, in partnership with the Ayala Theater Management, launched the 13th Philippine Independent Film Festival at the Marquee Mall here over-the-weekend.

Christine Crame, lead dancer of the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP), performed the “Balangay piece,” which signified the expansion of the Philippine Independent Film Festival outside Metro Manila starting with Pampanga.

Deputy general manager Ria Arda of the Ayala Mall Theater Management Inc. said in her speech that “Ayala Malls always believed in the creativeness and talents of the Filipino artists most especially the filmmakers.”

Aligned with their advocacy to support and promote local arts and culture, “the management hopes that with their venues, these entries will be accessible to more Filipino audience,” said Arda.

Cinemalaya Philippine Independent Film Festival deputy festival director Teresa Ranses said “Marquee Mall is the nearest to Metro Manila that we could bring Cinemalaya.”

Ranses also said it is a good thing to bring Cinemalaya to Pampanga since there are Kapampangan film makers that entered both short and full length films.

Film entries are now showing until August 13.

The awards night will be held at the Cultural Center of the Philippines on Sunday.
