PHL may host Ms. U anew

Jun 13, 2017

CLARK FREEPORT -- The Philippines may host anew the 2017 Miss Universe pageant sometime in the last week of November this year.

Frederick Aguirre, Department of Tourism assistant secretary for public affairs, said that ultimately, the hosting of the pageant would depend on Pres. Duterte.

“The organizers are talking with us and they want the pageant to be held in the last week of Thanksgiving month in the US,” he said in a forum with the Capampangans in Media, Inc. (CAMI) here recently.

He said nothing is yet official about the plans.

Aguirre explained that the 65th Miss Universe pageant that the Philippines already hosted last January was for the year 2016. “It was just delayed so it was held in January this year. The pageant we are now talking about is for 2017,” he added.

Members of the Miss Universe Organization were expected in Manila yesterday to discuss the proposal and attend a charity event.

Tourism Undersecretary Kat de Castro had confirmed the interest of Miss Universe organizers to hold the next pageant in the Philippines anew, and the proposal came from the pageant officials themselves.

The 2017 Miss Universe is scheduled for November. Filipino-British beauty queen Rachel Peters will be representing the Philippines this year.
