ANGELES CITY – Porac Vice Mayor Dexter David categorically denied reports that he will abandon Mayor Condradito “Carling” De La Cruz to seek a higher position, including mayor of the biggest town in Pampanga in terms of land area.
“I will stick it out with Mayor Carling because he has treated us in the council properly. He has also performed well as leader of Porac,” said David in chance interview here last week. They ran in tandem when they won in 2010.
“More importantly, the mayor has solidified us in the town council allowing us to work better,” he added.
David, son of former Porac Roy David and Board Member Gov. Edna De Ausen-David, said “I still have a long way to go in my young public service career and I must still learn more as vice mayor before seeking higher positions.”
Both his parents had died.
David is the younger brother of 2nd District Board Member Fritzie David-Dizon, who replaced her mother last year after the incumbent board member died.
David said he received offers to run for board member “if my sister Fritzie decides not to run.”
“But my focus is to stay, run and help people of Porac as vice mayor,” he said.
The first-term vice mayor disclosed that top Councilor Mike Tapang had announced his plans to challenge him.
“We welcome all challenges. But any early political pronouncement may cause divisiveness in the town,” he said when asked about the plans of the first-term councillor.
David said “most if not all in the town council are with Mayor Carling and me in pushing for progress in Porac.”
Tapang has yet to issue statements. His media handlers based in nearby Angeles City had been informed last week about the comments of David.
